Too often, we hold ourselves to impossible standards. Society, the media, and our own expectations create images for us of perfection that we’ll never realistically achieve. We constantly chastise and criticize ourselves and call it humility. Self-deprecation shortchanges our self-worth.
I think in our quest for humility, we have devalued the priceless gifts God has given us.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. […] Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:[…]
Grace Spoken Here is a Christian women’s blog community dedicated to the message that we are the handiwork of God, and His works are marvelous. We are imperfect, yet His eyes see us. His thoughts toward us are precious and loving.
God does not require perfection. To be used by Him and for His kingdom is not an unattainable goal that must wait while we straighten out all of our flaws. We cannot sit, unused vessels on a shelf, until we are “ready.” Just like getting married and having children, you are never “ready” enough for this journey. But He asks that we step out anyway.
You. Are. Enough.
In striving to become more, remember that you have value exactly as you are, right now. Our imperfections and flaws are not disqualifications. They are focus points for investment. And we will only invest in what we perceive as valuable. And you are valuable. You are precious. You are enough.
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
– Believer in Jesus and His Word
– Mama of two exuberant, beautiful boys
– Veteran Preacher’s Kid
– Really hilarious to the Under 10 crowd
– Talker. Like, a lot. To anyone, about anything
I am learning:
– My failures are not final
– My errors are not earth shattering
– My imperfections do not define my worth or my potential to Jesus
And His grace is sufficient for even me.
Sis. Lana Holt
Pastor’s Wife, Augusta, GA
Sis Holt was born and raised in truth and in ministry. Born in Sullivan, IN, her earliest memories are of the church her father, Rev. Kenneth Raney, pastored in Linton, IN. She began serving as a church musician at the age of 14 and has been active in ministry since.
She worked alongside her husband while he was a lay minister and Bible teacher. They have traveled to mission fields. She has taught Sunday school, directed massive church dinners, organized youth trips, and developed fundraisers. For over 20 years, she did it all while managing the books for Rev. Marcus Holt’s construction businesses and raising a gaggle of children (of which I am proud to say I am one!).
With grace, humility, and humor, she speaks wisdom. Her musical talent is second to none and her patience is heroic (trust me, I’ve tried it). I have seen Sis. Holt be dealt harsh blows and respond gently. She doesn’t speak ill of those who have wronged her, and she gives unceasingly of herself and her gifts to anyone who asks. If you visit Apostolic Cathedral of Praise in Martinez, GA, you will hear her prayers cover the sanctuary in every pre-service prayer. If you visit my parents’ house in the morning, you will find her studying her red Bible, worn from years of dedicated perusal, coffee in hand.
It is an blessing to be her daughter and an honor to feature her wisdom on this blog. Her contributions are listed below:
Sis. Allison Cox

Originally from Louisiana, they have been ministering in the Pacific Northwest for nearly three years. Sis. Allison is the endlessly patient mama of a firecracker little girl and just a few weeks away from welcoming a little boy!
She is a help to her husband, a quick wit, a musician and singer, and a dear, personal friend.
Her contributions are listed here:
Sis. Doretha Jones
Pastor’s Wife, Bryan, TX
Sis. Doretha Jones was raised in the church in the ministry of her parents, Pastor and Sister J.J. Bourn. She graduated from Jackson College of Ministries with a degree in Music, and she has been a blessing nationwide leading worship and investing in other musicians and praise singers. While her talent is incredible, her passion for the anointing of God in worship is the hallmark of her ministry.
She works diligently alongside her husband and two children, Bricen and JoAnna to foster a revival atmosphere in the church by cultivating unity, prayer, and evangelism in their local community of Bryan, Texas where they pastor Bryan UPC. They are cheered on in this work by their oldest son, Dillon, who lives in Heaven.
